Statement of Faith

We believe:

1. The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired word of God, without error in the original manuscripts, and constituting truth in all it addresses. It contains the revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men and is the Divine and final authority for Christian faith and life (Mt 24:35; 2Ti 3:16; Ps 12:6; Pr 30:5; Jn. 17:17; 17; 2 Pet. 1:20)

2. In one God, creator and sustainer of all things, eternally existing in three persons--Father, Son and Holy Spirit, equal and perfect in Deity, yet distinct and in harmonious relationship. (De 6:4; Mt 28:19; Lu 3:21-22; Jn 14:26; 1 Pet. 1:2; 2 Col. 13:14)

3. In God the Father, Who is a Spirit, and Whose attributes include eternity,unchangeableness, omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, and perfection. He is incomprehensible. (Gen. 17:1; Mal 3:6; Ps. 139:7-10; Jn. 4:24; Job 9:8-10; Ps. 92:8; Mt. 5:48; Deu. 32:4; Ps. 12:6; 1 Jn. 3:20)

4. In Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, yet one person. The Son of God, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He walked among men, suffered, and died on a cross as a complete atonement for our sins. He rose, bodily, from the dead, ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father where He serves as High Priest and intercessor. We also believe Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead. (Matt 24:44; Luke 1:35; John 5:26-27; Acts 1:9-11, 10:42; Ro 2:16, 3:24, 8:34; 1 Pe 2:24; Eph 1:7; 2 Ti 4:1; James 5:8; He 7:25, 9:24; He 7:25, 9:24; 1 Pe 3:22, 4:5; 1 Jo 2:1-2)

5. In the Holy Spirit, in His purpose to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, to convict and regenerate believing sinners, to indwell God’s people, and in His distinctive activity to convict and regenerate believing sinners, and to empower, purify, reveal, and unify. (Mt 3:11; Jn 16:7-8; Acts 15:28; Rom 8:11; 1 Co 2:4, 2:12, 6:11, 12:7, 11; Ph 2:1-2; Col 3:14)

6. That man was created by God, in His image, and free from sin. Subsequently, through Adam’s disobedience man inherited a sinful nature and is, therefore, spiritually dead and unable to save himself. Only through the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit can the sinner repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Ge 1:26-27; Ac 16:14; Jo 3:5, 8; Ro 3:23, 5:12; Ep 2:1-5, 12)

7. In salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Our sovereign God, alone, elects who will be saved, apart from human merit or works. And, only through the shed blood and resurrection of Jesus are we justified. (Eph. 2:8-9; 1:4-5, 7; Jn. 1:13; Ro 3:23-24, 26, 28, 6:23, 8:1, 10:9; 2 Th. 2:13; Tit 2:11; 1 Pe 1:1;)

8. All the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are secure in Christ forever. (Jn 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Ro 8:1, 38-39; 1 Co 1:4-8; He 7:25; 1 Pe 1:5)

9. That water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church in the current age, yet not the means to salvation. Moreover, that the Lord’s Supper ought to be celebrated on a regular basis.  (Rom 6:3-4; 1 Co 11:25-26, 14:26; Matt 26:26-29; Matt 28:19; Acts 2:38, 41, 8:12, 38, 39, 10:47-48, 22:16; Col 2:12)

10. That the true Church is composed of all persons who through the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit have received saving faith and are now united together in the body of Christ of which the Lord is head. That the purposes of the Church include worshipping God, nurturing believers, evangelizing and showing mercy. That such believers have the privilege and responsibility to actively employ the spiritual gifts sovereignly given to them by God and seek to mature those gifts. (Mt 16:18, 28:19; Lu 6:35-36; Acts 2:47, 11:29; Ro 12:6-8; 1 Co 7:7, 12:7, 8-10, 28, 14:26; 2 Co 8:4; Eph 1:12, 22-23, 4:11-13, 5:16-19, 25; Col 1:28, 3:16; 1 Jo 3:17)

11. That prayer is the effective communication between believers and God. Commanded in Scripture, enjoyed by God, and based on faith, prayer includes adoration, confessions of sin, praise and thanksgiving, and requests for ourselves or others. (Phil. 4:6; 1 Th. 5:17; Eph. 6:18; 1 Jn. 1:9; Acts 6:4; Lk. 18:1; Mt. 7:7; Rev. 5:8; Col. 4:2; Jam. 5:13-15; Jn. 16:24; Mt. 21:22; 1 Ti. 2:1; 1 Jn. 5:14, 15)

12. In the submission of believers to all human authorities, to traditional marriage (defined as a union between one man and one woman) and family relationships, and to one another.  (Rom. 13:1-8;  1 Co 7:16; Eph 5:22; 1 Pe 2:13-14, 17-18, 3:1, 5; 1 Jo 3:14; Jude 8)

13. In the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the eternal existence of all in either heaven or hell; of the believer to everlasting blessedness, joy, and reward with the Lord and of the unbeliever to everlasting punishment. And that Jesus will return bodily and visibly to judge all mankind. (Ps 49:14-15; Is 26:19; Dan 12:2; Luke 12:2-3; Matt 25:31-46; John 5:24, 29, 11:23-24; Acts 24:15; Ro 2:5-11; 1 Co 15:20, 23, 42-44, 49, 53; 2 Co 5:10; Phil 3:21; Rev 20:11-15)
